It all started with transport cases...
Long before Cavlux was created, we had spent more than 20 years designing and manufacturing professional transport cases used to protect valuable equipment in demanding conditions. These cases are built to withstand intensive everyday use, frequent transport and years of reliable service. More than 22,000 transport cases manufactured in our workshop are still used by professionals across Europe. The same engineering principles, manufacturing standards and attention to detail became the foundation of every Cavlux saddle box. Instead of starting from scratch, we built on proven experience gained over two decades of designing products that simply have to perform.
How Cavlux came to life
Over the years, we met many customers who shared another passion beyond their everyday work — horses. Some were riders themselves, while others supported their children as they discovered the world of equestrian sport. They already knew how well our transport cases performed in demanding conditions, and one day they asked us a simple question: "Could you build a saddle box using the same experience?". That question marked the beginning of Cavlux. Our first saddle boxes left the workshop 12 years ago. They were simple, classic and available only in black. Many of them are still in daily use today. Since then, we've expanded the collection with new models, features and colours while staying true to what has mattered from the very beginning — durability, functionality and craftsmanship.
Materials chosen with purpose
When we began designing the first Cavlux saddle box, we didn't have to search for the right material from scratch. For more than 20 years, we've worked with the same high-quality plywood used in professional transport cases. We know exactly how it performs under intensive use, how it responds over time and how to design durable, reliable constructions around it. That's why every Cavlux saddle box is built using the same proven material. Not because it's the only option, but because we know its strengths, its limitations and how it performs after years of everyday use.
Why does this construction matter?
The multi-layer plywood used in every Cavlux saddle box is durable, resistant to intensive use and protected with a UV coating that helps preserve its appearance and makes it easy to keep clean. It combines high strength with relatively low weight, which is why we've relied on this material in our transport cases for more than 20 years. Thanks to our own workshop, experienced team and carefully controlled manufacturing process, we oversee every stage of production — from preparing the individual components to the final assembly. The result is a saddle box designed for everyday life at the stable, combining durability, functionality and long-term reliability.
Will a Cavlux saddle box withstand a horse's kick?
It's one of the questions we're asked most often, and we always answer it honestly. No material is completely resistant to the force of a horse's kick — whether it's plywood or metal. Rather than promising indestructibility, we design our saddle boxes to withstand the demands of everyday use. The areas most exposed to wear are protected with aluminium profiles, and the entire construction is designed for long-term durability and, if necessary, straightforward repairs.
