Will a Cavlux saddle box fit your space? What to check before buying
When choosing a saddle box, it is natural to start by considering how much equipment it can hold. Before buying, however, there is another practical question worth asking: will the model you choose fit where you want to use it – and can you get it there easily? This matters both in the tack room and when the saddle box will regularly travel with you to competitions. A few simple measurements can help you check this before choosing a particular model.
Don’t measure only where the saddle box will stand
Check the width, depth and height of the space intended for your saddle box, but also measure the route it will need to take to get there. Doors, gates, narrow corridors or other passages may be more restrictive than the space in the tack room itself. Find the narrowest point along the entire route and compare those measurements with the dimensions of the model you are considering.
Allow enough space to use your saddle box
The fact that a saddle box fits into a particular space does not necessarily mean that it will be comfortable to use there. You also need room to open it, access the drawers and take out or put away your equipment. For this reason, do not plan a space that matches the external dimensions of the saddle box exactly. Doors, shelving, other cabinets and tack room equipment may also restrict access.
Compare your available space with the dimensions of Cavlux models
Cavlux models differ in size. Pony Rider is 57 cm wide, 72 cm deep and 77 cm high including the wheels. Junior Rider is 60 cm wide, 60 cm deep and 140 cm high including the wheels. Superior Rider is 90 cm wide, 60 cm deep and 140 cm high including the wheels. These differences become particularly important when you compare them with the actual space available. An additional 30 cm of width may make little difference in a large tack room, but in a smaller space it can determine which model is the right choice.
If your saddle box travels with you
If you plan to take your saddle box to competitions or other events, check the available space in your vehicle, trailer or horsebox as well as the dimensions of the loading opening. There may be enough room inside while the opening itself becomes the limiting factor. Also consider the other equipment travelling alongside your saddle box – simply being able to fit the box inside does not necessarily mean that the remaining transport space will still be practical.
Remember the wheels
The heights we provide for Cavlux models include the standard wheels. If you choose larger wheels in a configuration where this option is available, remember to take the resulting overall height into account when measuring the storage space and any passages the saddle box will need to pass through.
Bigger is not automatically better
When choosing a model, compare two things: how much space you need for your equipment and how much space you have available for the saddle box itself. If Junior Rider holds the equipment you need and fits your tack room or transport vehicle better, the larger Superior Rider may not be the better choice. Your saddle box should suit not only your equipment, but also the space in which you will actually use it.
What should you measure before buying?
Measure the space where the saddle box will stand, the narrowest doors and passages along the route and – if the saddle box will travel with you – the available transport space and loading opening. Then compare these measurements with Pony Rider, Junior Rider or Superior Rider. A few minutes with a tape measure can determine not only whether your saddle box will fit, but also whether you will be able to use it comfortably.
